Phantom curse is a datapack for Minecraft 1.20 and up which aims to rework how phantoms spawn and interact with the player.
I've done away with the required sleeping every 3 days and introduced a new way to spawn them in. When fighting a witch mob, there's a chance you'll get hit with a Curse of Insomnia. This curse does not wear off over time and, unlike regular status effects, can't be cured with milk.
You'll need to follow a clue in the new advancement this pack adds and experiment a bit to find a cure (Floor crafting in a cauldron is required). Just be careful you don't ignore the curse for too long...
Cursed players will be unable to sleep. You can still set your spawn in a bed, but you won't be able to skip the night. Each night, phantoms will manifest in different ways, getting worse as time goes on.
Night 1: You will be unable to sleep. Nothing much will change about your situation other than the strange sounds you hear from the night sky.
Nights 2-4: Regular phantoms will spawn in small groups of 3. These are your standard vanilla phantoms, but they drop a new item called Ectoplasm.
Nights 5+: Phantoms will now spawn in larger groups of 4, and each phantom has a 50% chance of spawning in as a Big Phantom. Big phantoms deal more damage, have more HP, and have a chance at picking up the player and dropping them to deal damage. When killed, they can drop a Phantom Eye.
Phantom Eyes are a new consumable item. When eaten, the player can pull out a random treasure item from their dreams after going to bed, but only if they sleep through the night.
NOTE: Big Phantoms have an optional custom texture, but it's only visible with either Optifine, Entity Texture Features, or any other mod that enabled Optifine's random entity texture features.
