Incentive Paths
This datapack reinforces the use of path and path infrastructure by rewarding those who use proper paths and punish those who walk outside. Most natural blocks, like grass blocks, sand, etc. make you slower, and things like dirt paths, polished blocks, etc. make you faster. This datapack also adds 2 new kinds of boots, which right now you can only obtain from wandering traders, more ways will be available in the future.
Below is an approximate graph on how blocks affect your speed. blocks on the left slow you the most, blocks above yellow don't affect your speed, blocks above green make you faster and on the right are blocks which boost you when you use the power shoes. more info under power shoes.
If you don't like certain blocks, but want to keep the speed bonuses, you can still use slabs/carpets/etc. to hide them.
**TL;DR: Fancy blocks make you faster, not so fancy blocks make you slower. **
Special Shoes
Wandering trades may sell one kind of special shoes, either power shoes or travel shoes. Both are for different purposes. Most commonly they sell the leather variant, but can also sell golden, iron and even diamond ones.
Travel Shoes
With these shoes equipped, all blocks will behave like in vanilla - no slowdown or extra speed. These shoes are great for adventures, where you don't want to setup paths.
Power Shoes
These shoes make you even faster if you put mineral blocks under the block you are standing on. These shoes are great when used for example in your base, as they reward proper path infrastructure.
