More Turtle Scutes and Dynamic Humidity

This update will reset your config file if config updates are not disabled!

A small update for Friday. This update adds Turtle Scutes to shipwrecks and buried treasure to balance the increased demand for them with Turtle Armour. It also adds humidity integ

  • The config version is now 5, this will cause your config to reset if you have not disabled config auto updates!
  • Added dynamic seasonal humidity to humid tropical biomes
  • By default, sweat efficiency in humid biomes was increased from 1/6 to 1/3
  • During the Wet Season in humid tropical biomes, sweat efficiency is lowered to 1/6
  • During the Dry Season in humid tropical biomes, sweat efficiency is increased to 1/2
  • This only affects tropical biomes, other humid biomes like Lush and Dripstone Caves are not affected
  • With Serene Seasons, Thermoo Patches only considers it to be the wet/dry season during the mid wet/mid dry season respectively. This is because that is when the effects of those seasons are most apparent.
  • Buried Treasure Chests now contain 2-8 Turtle Scutes
  • Shipwreck 'supply' chests now have a 25% chance of containing 1 Turtle Scute
  • Shipwreck 'treasure' chests now contain 1-4 Turtle Scutes

Config Version 5

  • humidBiomeSweatEfficiency is now 0.33 (increased from 0.167)

I Must Not Fear

This version adds a new Fear status effect (and Potion), that will be used as part of the Mirage boss fight. However, it is released now so that I can gather feedback on it and test it out. You can submit feedback here. This also marks Scorchful as compatible with 1.21.1.

  • Marked as compatible with Minecraft 1.21.1
  • Sandstorms now reduced mob follow range by 50%.
  • Added new status effect: Fear
  • For hostile mobs, Fear causes them to flee from their target (like how Creepers flee from Cats).
  • For players and passive mobs, Fear desaturates and darkens the screen, and makes them more visible to mobs. Mobs will now detect the player from twice as far away, and can see the player through walls.
  • Ender Dragons, Withers, Wardens, Elder Guardians, and all non-path-aware mobs are immune to fear.
  • When a player is given Fear for the first time, they are now granted "The Mind Killer" advancement.
  • Added a new potion: Paranoia, which grants Fear and Darkness
  • The Potion of Paranoia is currently brewed from adding a Wither Rose to an Awkward Potion. This is a placeholder and will be changed in a later update.
  • The Potion of Paranoia can get extended duration by adding Redstone, but cannot be amplified.
  • Add a config to disable seasons integration
  • Internal biome temperature is no longer used to determine biome temperature; only tags are used now.

Summer is Coming

This update improves integration with Seasons mods. Now instead of trying to automatically "detect" biome temperature categories through biome temperature, explicit tags are introduced for each category by season, allowing for more fine-tuned settings for biome temperature integration.

  • Updated biome temperature tags to use a new season based system (but it is backwards compatible with the old tags for packs that use them).
  • Updated Vietnamese Translations (thanks Kyo #71)
  • Fixed Sandstorms occurring in Deserts during the Wet Season when it rains with Serene Seasons
  • Added a passive heat tick interval config option
  • Fixed a bug where heat damage would randomly knock the player around

Scorchful for 1.21

This update brings Scorchful to 1.21. This was a pretty big update and required a lot of changes in the back end. Frostiful will take a lot longer to update, but it will come in time.

Gameplay Changes

  • Updated Scorchful to 1.21
  • Removed Rehydration from Piglin bartering loot
  • Increased the chance of Rehydration appearing in a Warped Lily Farm chest to 50% (from 20%)
  • Sandstorm wind sounds now play at all heights above ground
  • Cactus Juice now gives twice as much when Dehydration is installed.
  • Ominous Bottles are now hydrating
  • Vegetables are now refreshing

Technical Changes

  • Removed old heat resistance tags (replaced)
  • Added new armor material tags to control the heat resistances of various armor types. See the wiki page for further information.
  • Heat resistance amount configs were moved to the combat config section
  • Consumables that provide water can now be controlled with the item component scorchful:drink_level. Note that if you want to make a non-consumable item apply water, it will also need to be given a consumable component like minecraft:food.
  • The old item tags for food and drinks now apply this component automatically when a new item stack is created.

I think I see something?

This update adds a new feature to your classic heat stroke: hallucinations! When outside during the day and affected by Heat Stroke, you will begin seeing things out in the Deep Desert including Boats, Flowers, and even Fish?

This will likely be the last major release for 1.20.x, from here on out only critical bug fixes will be made in these versions. Future development will be focused on 1.21 (which will be releasing immediately after this update!)

Changelog:

  • Added Heat Visions when affected by outside while outside in Desert and Badlands biomes.
  • Added an option to the client config to disable sound temperature effects (in particular, to disable the heart beat)
  • Splash Potions now soak all living entities, not just players
  • Tooltips for thirst should now more reliably appear on modded items (now set using the Fabric Item tooltip event)
  • Integrated Satin API for Heat Stroke visual effects, for better compatibility with other post-processing shader effects.
  • Added an option to the client config to disable sound temperature effects (in particular, to disable the heart beat)
  • Internal dev thing: Switched to using Thermoo Seasons API
  • Fixed the Sun Hat recipe advancement
  • Being fully submerged in water no longer reduces sweating efficiency in humid biomes
  • Updated some wordings in the config screen
  • Added Finnish Translations (by N0aW) 🇫🇮
  • Added Vietnamese Translations (by godkyo98) 🇻🇳
  • Fixed the home page in Mod Menu

Updates Scorchful to 1.20.4. Not much has changed for gameplay, this is mostly just technically changes (though some fixes were made). However, perhaps most notably, the Dehydration integration has not been updated (as Dehydration itself has not been updated yet), so this version does NOT work with Dehydration at the moment. This will, of course. be fixed when Dehydration updates.

  • Made Crimson and Warped Lillies recharge their water much faster
  • Refactored player temperature effects to use thermoo:sequence temperature effects, and moved them into their own player folder. Players should see a small performance improvement from this.
  • Fixed sand being able to be obtained from partially filled Sand Cauldrons
  • Fixed Crimson Lillies consuming drinks/water bottles when used on a fully soaked Crimson Lily
  • Added new end to end tests on the back end, so hopefully the mod will be more stable and bug free going forward update to update.
  • Fixes #55: Drinking water doesn't reduce heat or add to the water bar in nether
  • Removed drying from block light
  • In The Nether, the Block light heat radius has been reduced to 4 blocks, and produces less heat overall.
  • Added a new config option to control the block light heat radius in The Nether.
  • Fixed heat stroke wobble and blur effects persisting after death

This update replaces the nausea effect with a new Heat Stroke effect that is less nauseating while still adding interesting visual effects from high heat. This effect will later be used for spawning The Mirage, but I thought it would be nice to get this out earlier since nausea is a very annoying effect to have for more than a short while. Striders also now get a slight boost from being warm!

Changelog:

  • Added new heat stroke status effect
  • Added a gulp sound that plays after filling the thirst bar
  • All non-immune entities get extra heating from being in Lava
  • Striders now passively cool when out of Lava
  • Made Husks, Camels, Withers, Wither Skeletons, Ender Dragons, Wardens, and Ghasts immune to heat
  • Made Blazes, Magma Cubes, and Striders benefit from heat
  • Striders now gain regeneration when their temperature is at or above 99%, and also gain a speed boost that scales with their temperature.

This update adds a new wetness indicator to the HUD! A small blue checkboard pattern will appear under your hearts, showing exactly how wet you are. This will hopefully make it easier to intuit the heating mechanics of Scorchful.

Now that I'm fairly happy with the survival mechanics, my focus will shift to the development of The Mirage.

Changelog:

  • Added a wetness indicator
  • Updated required Thermoo version to 2.3
  • Add a mount temperature indicator
  • Known issues: Both the new wetness indicator and mount health overlay do not currently work with Armor Points++. Use Colourful Hearts or Overflowing Bars instead.

This update reworks how Scorchful interacts with Dehydration (when it is installed) and also takes the first step towards combat.

  • Made Fire Charges (the vanilla item) throwable (Closes #41)
  • Removed passive shading (fixes #39 - this caused too many issues with Frostiful installed)
  • Made Rehydration pop more often (though gives less water)
  • Added a new parching foods tag. This is not used by any vanilla items, but is used by alcoholic items from Let's Do mods. More items are likely to be made parching in the future.
  • Added integration for the foods and drinks added by various Let's Do mods. Note that most of these items won't have their tooltip working, but that is an issue with how Let's Do implements their tooltips (if they call super.addHoverText it will work).

Dehydration Integration Reworking

Dehydration and Scorchful integration has been updated. The gameplay experience with Dehydration installed should now be identical the experience without it - except of course you must manage thirst to avoid death. All of these changes only apply when Dehydration is installed.

Closes #29

  • Dehydration has been given its own config section in the Mod Integration Config.
  • Sweating now drains up to 4 points of thirst (configurable)
  • Dehydration added by wetness is now based on the maximum number of points of thirst Scorchful will take, and it is no longer directly configurable.
  • These changes should make it so that sweating will last roughly as long with Dehydration as it does without, making future balance changes easier.
  • Fixes #40 - Rehydration does not work with Dehydration
  • Rehydration now requires 4 points of thirst to be drained before it can pop
  • Rehydration enchantment now provides a random amount of thirst when it pops, increasing with the number of armor pieces enchanted with Rehydration worn.

A second balancing update, this time a bit more focused on the Nether and later game. This is probably not going to be the last balance update, but hopefully now things are generally a bit more okay. Note that this update changes a few default config values, and the config will reset itself if automatic updates are not disabled!

  • Cooling is now applied to all living entities (Fixes #34)
  • Fixed Rehydration not ticking properly
  • Fixed screen going completely black when using a Spyglass and wearing a Sun Hat (Fixes #35)
  • No longer scale cooling by wetness percent (this made it too hard to tell whether or not drinking actually did anything)
  • Nausea is no longer applied at max heat when the player has fire resistance
  • Added config values for heating in The Nether
  • Added a separate configurable on fire warm rate with Fire Resistance, which is set to a quarter of the normal on fire rate by default

Config Version 4

  • Reduced cooling from wetness to -6 from -12
  • Reduced drying per tick from being on fire from 50 to 3
